Where did Elemental Garden begin?

It began when I was living in a cookie-cutter townhouse, looking at the streetlights and longing for a place that truly felt like ‘Home’. A place where I could stare at a dark, star-filled sky, away from traffic and neighbours and background light and fill my Being with Nature’s gifts. My head thought that was an impossible wish, but still my heart dared to dream.

One day, the whispering in my heart grew louder and the dream grew more persistent, “go searching”, it implored. The ‘grown-up’ part of me insisted it was impossible, unaffordable, yet the child within pleaded, its determination relentless and its imagination in full flight.

This life is all about listening isn’t it?

Listening to the tiniest whisper buried beneath all the noise of the world and daring to believe in the pure intelligence behind its existence.

The heart is said to be the seat of the soul after all.

Are you listening to the whispers of your own heart? To it’s dreams and yearnings? It’s otherworldly innocence? It’s your compass and the most sensitive of instruments. Hold it tenderly, just like you’d hold a newborn baby and let it guide you to your own perfect version of True North.

If you’re wondering how to listen and follow your heart these are the best suggestions I can share.

• Turn everything off. Every external device that distracts and pings and fills your life with noise.

• Gift yourself time and space away from all ‘others’, (no matter how much you declare you love them)

• Then ideally, sink into nature’s embrace, a park, a forest, a beach, a mountain, breathe deeply until relaxation washes over you – if this seems impossible (and it was for me once) start with the first two points and find a place to be still and alone, a cupboard if necessary!

• Repeat this often and regularly and the whispering will grow louder when it knows you’re available to listen
  

The heart is like a little child. It just wants to be reassured that its longings are paid attention to, that it is seen and heard and matters. It fills with joy when you listen and become present to ‘it’. This is you entering into deeper relationship with your own soul, the real you, the part free from conditioning, judgement, painful memories and all that influences and affects the mind.
