A Stable Life

elementalgarden

When we moved to Elemental in 2014, a miniature pony lived there, so we set about finding her a new forever home. Her old stable eventually became a duck house next to the chicken coop in a messy part of the garden. One day, after feeding the birds and daydreaming, I looked across the valley and thought what a wonderful view they have and I'm pretty sure it's wasted on them!

Whenever I approach hubby and say..."I was thinking...", his body language says "oh no, what now...?!" Whilst my imagination is forever busy, his clever hands bring my dreams into reality. A perfect partnership I say and I know I've got the easier end of the deal...!;)

Eventually, the birds got moved and wouldn't you believe it, an old window bought for a whole $1 NZD, leaning against the garage, was measured up and found to be a perfect fit for the front of the stable.

Re-imagining a space is an inner adventure, making something better than you found it. Easy to do with lots of money and other people's talent, after all TV shows leave us hungry for the "move that bus!" makeover fantasy - and just returning home one day to a perfect life.

In reality, rather than increasing debt or winning a renovation lottery, we're better to go on a journey of discovery, exercising frustration until it develops into patience, poverty consciousness into limitless possibilities and see what we can create for ourselves, what skills we can develop, who we meet along the way - that way the feeling of triumph is so much more enriching and satisfying - when we achieve against all the odds.

After completion, I just enjoyed the sense of expanded space, the clean, bright new possibility this sweet little room offered...

Gradually more creativity filled the space but the art supplies quickly outgrew the little stable - and no-one over 6ft really suited the room, (which certainly had its benefits too)...!

...so I re-imagined it as a little glamping retreat space, filled with fairy costumes for visiting children and important mementos from my life journey and a very comfortable bed I had no room for in the house...

Whenever I need an escape from the world and to find a little balance, I head out to embrace the sweet simplicity offered by the stable...

This space was created to be shared with those looking for a night away from their own normal reality...if you want to rediscover your own inner stable place, maybe you just need a night away from the tech and electricity, to stare at the stars and the moon and reignite your own passionate dreams for life...get in touch if you'd like a nourishing, simple escape at Elemental!

Maybe there's something unloved, unused or neglected in your own life calling to be re-imagined this winter? Whatever you do, have fun with the project!!
